Preventing Relatives from Fighting Posture.

Once there was a great shortage of water in the small river that ran between 2 small Kingdoms.
The people in the Kingdoms were both relatives of the Lord Buddha.

But they were going to fight over the water.  The Lord Buddha knew that if he did not prevent them,
there was going to be great bloodshed.  So he came and wiseley asked "Which means more to you,
water or relatives?"

The Lord Buddha's question made the people realize that if is foolish to be fighting over the water.

Phra That Cedi Luang was constucted in 1491 by King Saen Muang Ma of Lanna (ruled 1388-1401)
and finished in the next reign by his Queen.

In 1481 King Tilokarat enlarged the stupa to the size of 56 by 56 metres in widthe and 80 metres in height.  It has been the largest stupa of the Lanna since them.  The Stupa has 4 niches, one at each
direction.  Each niched housed a Buddha image in miediation gesture, exept the eastern niched enshrined the Emerald Buddha
(noew at the Royal Palace in Bangkok) between A.D. 1468 to 1537.

In 1545 during the reign of Queen Chira Prapha of Magrai Degnasty, after long and very happy rain
and an earthquake the Stupa collapsed as it is seen today.

In the eastern niched where the Emerald Buddha used to be placed is now the Jade Buddha image name by His Majesty the King, Phra Phuttha Celermsirirat.
