White elephant
The Royal Mount and the Majestic Symbol of sovereignty

Elephants have since ancient times been regarded as auspicious creatures, a symbol of The King's majesty.  In the past, they were know to render multiple services to country in times of war.  Aside from being a symbol of the King's grandeur, the creature symbolizes the country's prestige, fertility and prosperity as well as peace and happiness on the part of the people.  Its significance is evident in the past national flag of Siam featuring a white elephant and the royal decorations that include, for example, the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant.

When a rare elephant with special characteristics befitting a white elephant is found in the realm, it is considered an auspicious sign for the nation.  White elephants are royal mounts and a symbol of the monarch's sovereigsty, prestige, might and grander.  In keeping with ancient tradition, royal ceremonies have been  held to receive, celebrate and register noble white elephant.
